Pro Youth Recreation & Family Center

Our Story

Built from the community, for the community, Pro Youth has been empowering families and youth in Brooklyn for over a decade.

Our Mission

To empower youth, families, and underserved communities through life-saving certifications, workforce readiness programs, and educational initiatives, providing tools for long-term health, safety, and economic stability.

Our Vision

A world where every individual, regardless of background or zip code, has access to the training, knowledge, and community support needed to lead a safe, healthy, and fulfilling life.

How We Started

A Community Need Became a Community Movement

Pro Youth Recreation & Family Center was born from a simple observation: life-saving training and career development resources were not reaching the communities that needed them most.

Founded in Staten Island, NY, Pro Youth set out to bridge that gap, partnering with the American Red Cross and local organizations to deliver certified, affordable, and accessible training directly into the heart of underserved neighborhoods.

Today, Pro Youth serves hundreds of individuals each year through certifications, workforce programs, financial literacy workshops, and community partnerships that create lasting, generational impact.

Afua Asamoah is the founder and Executive Director of Pro Youth Recreation & Family Center, a nonprofit she established to address a clear gap: communities most in need of life-saving training and career support were being left behind.

With deep roots in community service, Afua built Pro Youth from the ground up, securing an American Red Cross authorized training partnership and developing a program model that prioritizes affordability, accessibility, and measurable impact.

Under her leadership, Pro Youth has expanded from a single CPR training initiative to a multi-program organization offering Red Cross certifications, workforce development, financial literacy workshops, and scout troop partnerships serving hundreds of individuals each year across Brooklyn and beyond.

Afua's mission is personal: she believes that when communities have the tools to stay safe, build careers, and achieve financial stability, entire generations are transformed.
